Kalliola Settlement Youth Association, Kalliolan Nuoret ry, is a non-political and non-religious youth organisation which works in Helsinki region and its surrounding areas. Kalliola Youth Association is a part of Kalliola Settlement and belongs to the Finnish Federation of Settlement Youth Associations. Kalliola Youth Association has done youth work independently since 1974.
The mission of the youth work of Kalliola Youth Association is to support the growth of children and youth as individuals and as members of the community. The work consists of different activities and projects.
All the work bases on social youth work which means that it is based on the needs of the children and youth. The work is long-term and it is done in the cross-professional and cross-sector environment.
The core values of the youth work of Kalliola Youth Association are
equality, acceptance of difference, respect of the rights of an individual, trust in the capacity of the individual and the community in solving their problems independently.
The target groups of Kalliola Youth Association are children, youth and families . In all our activities we also have children and youth who have special needs and who need special attention and care.
The activities of Kalliola Youth Association are:
- Afternoon clubs for children aged 7-8
- Camps
- Youth work in the youth house in partnership with the youth department of the city of Helsinki. This work includes open youth work, small workgroup activities, hobby groups, happenings etc.
- Tyttöjen Talo, Girls' House, whose work includes open youth work, hobby groups, open and closed groups which are based on intensive interaction. There are also development projects for supporting teenage mothers, for sexual education and multicultural girl work in the Girls' House.
- Different development projects which concentrate on the issues of participation, voluntary work, multicultural work and and girls supported dwelling.
Cooperation
Kalliola Youth Association has partnership-cooperation with different department of the city of Helsinki and it co-operates with other settlements and with other Finnish youth organisations.
Partnership is based on equal commitment, responsibility and duties but also on equal rights and interests. Both organisations work together as equal partners and bring strength of their own organisations to the work.
The work of Kalliola Youth Association is financed by Finnish Slot Machine Association, different departments of the city of Helsinki, Ministry of Education, fees and sponsorship.
